A few people have asked if the Reno Championship Cash Classic will have a full slate of open-breed English and Western Pleasure classes, so here’s the thinking behind what we’re doing this first year.
We actually talked about it quite a bit.
The Fallon show is also on that weekend and already offers open-breed classes, and we love that show and the people who put it on. In fact, their crew has been helping us with this show too, so the last thing we wanted to do was duplicate what they already do so well.
That’s why we decided to build Reno around the four divisions we really want to do well: Arabian/Half-Arabian, Pinto, Gypsy Vanner and Working Ranch Horse.
And honestly, there is still a LOT of CLASSES here and showing to do at this show!!!
Eligible horses can cross-enter where the rules allow, especially into the ranch classes, so if you have a horse that does more than one thing, bring it. We want people to get more out of the trip than three classes and a hotel bill.
Then there are the three $2,000 Open Stakes, English, Western and Showmanship, open to eligible exhibitors across the show. So there is still some very real money sitting there waiting for somebody to come get it.
For year one, we’d rather do four divisions really well, keep it to three days, give people plenty of opportunities to show and make the whole weekend fun.
And next year, maybe we can coordinate with the Fallon crew a little better on dates so we can add more true open-breed opportunities and let both shows grow together.
We’d love to see that happen.
For now, Reno is going to be four divisions, three days, lots of crossover, real cash, good horses, good people and hopefully one of those weekends you actually remember for the right reasons.
That’s the plan. And we’re pretty excited about it.

One of the things I’m most excited about with the Reno Championship Cash Classic is that we’re giving people more reasons to actually bring their horses and SHOW them. If you have an Arabian or Half-Arabian that can ranch, you can show your Arabian classes and then go do ranch. If you have a Pinto that does more than one job, even better. Same with the Vanners. The whole idea is to give you more opportunities over the three days instead of hauling all the way to Reno for a handful of classes and then spending the rest of the weekend eating snacks and watching everybody else.
The three $2,000 Open Stakes are another big part of that. They are open to eligible exhibitors across the show, so you are not locked into just your breed division. If your horse can go do it, we want to give you the chance to go do it.
That is really what this show is about. Four divisions, three days, over $15,000 in payouts, great judges, an air-conditioned arena in July, and enough crossover that you can hopefully get a lot more out of the trip. Then when the showing is done, we’ll have the welcome reception, barn party, Sunday brunch and all the other things that make a horse show feel like an actual weekend with friends instead of a three-day endurance test.
So start looking at your horses now and thinking about what else they can do. Grab your barn friends, put Reno on the calendar for July 23–25, 2027, and come make a weekend out of it with us.
Premium coming soon, and I think once you see the whole thing together, you’re going to understand exactly why we’re so excited about this one!!!!
